Illustrated portrait of Mélanie Carestia, Jean Niel perfumer behind Bloom Away 21.04 for Neydo

Perfumer

Mélanie Carestia

Mélanie Carestia is a perfumer at Jean Niel in Grasse. For Neydo she made Bloom Away 21.04, a perfume inspired by a dream of stepping into a painted garden.

Who is Mélanie Carestia

She learned her trade over nine years at Robertet, first as a student and then as a junior perfumer. In 2011 she moved to the Parfums Christian Dior laboratory, where she stayed for three years. At Symrise she worked in Paris and Dubai on perfumes for Arabian Oud and Al Rehab. In September 2017 she joined Sozio’s Paris office, and today she works at Jean Niel. She made Blu Mediterraneo Ginepro di Sardegna for Acqua di Parma and Paris Angkor for Carven.

Signature style

The smells of nature inspire her, above all the orange blossom she remembers from childhood. She works from images and from things she has lived through herself. Paris Angkor grew out of the atmosphere of the Angkor temples, full of history and spirituality. She paired soft leather with fresh cardamom, which reminds her of Cambodia’s green mountains. Bloom Away 21.04 contains peach, rose and patchouli.
