The Cobra and The Canary

Imaginary Authors The Cobra and The Canary – Neal Orris, a twenty-three-year-old, desperately seeks an escape from a dead-end job and his decaying hometown in Virginia. A prophetic clue leads him to a barn where he discovers his father’s secret obsession: a pristine 1964 Shelby Cobra Roadster. His first stop is the tobacco plantation where his best friend Ike works, and from there they set off together for Palm Springs, dreaming of races and cash prizes that would ensure their survival. The journey is a string of seedy motels and stiff drinks, cold pools and hot debutantes, burned rubber and cigarette smoke. At each stop, the friends invent new nicknames and identities, turning their innocent escape into a whirlwind of decadence and adventure.
