Imaginary Authors Fox in the Flowerbed – after years of obscurity, a group of students discovers a reclusive author in a remote mountain cabin in the Austrian Alps, bringing us a collection of fairy tales from the alpine world and announcing the return of the enigmatic Chunhua Luli. The main characters in these stories are wild animals, but the gentle lessons they convey hit at the very core of human nature. In the title story, a young fox becomes obsessed with a butterfly, only to learn in the end how unpredictable and dangerous infatuation can be. Other themes delve into the advantages of unwavering ambition, the importance and influence of beauty, the search for peace, and the power of positive thinking. Forty years after her excellent debut, Luli reminds us that we are all animals, connected through a vast and ever-changing ecosystem much larger than ourselves.
