A Conversation with Quentin Dorado

In the realm of niche perfumery, few voices resonate as deeply and authentically as that of Quentin Dorado, the founder of the bold and emotionally charged fragrance house Sora Dora. Rooted in personal memories, family heritage, and fearless creativity, Quentin’s approach to scent is anything but ordinary. With a background in fragrance retail and a soul steeped in olfactory nostalgia – from the smell of Pokémon cards to the women he has loved – he translates emotions into perfume with raw sincerity.

In this exclusive interview, Quentin opens up about the inspiration behind the Sora Dora brand, the stories each fragrance tells, and the delicate balance between artistic integrity and a demanding market. If you have ever wondered what it means to wear a fragrance that tells a true story, this is your chance to step into the world of Sora Dora – where nothing is fabricated and everything is felt.

Quentin Dorado on the Vision and Soul of the Sora Dora Brand

It smells of a light summer breeze full of sea salt. You are standing in an immortelle field, admiring the sea in the distance and the beautiful tiny yellow flowers.

Fragrances have always played a central role in my life. My sensory universe is built upon powerful olfactory memories: nail polish, hot plastic, the scent of the women I’ve loved, or even brand-new Pokémon cards. I initially developed my career in niche perfume retail, which allowed me to gain genuine market knowledge and meet truly passionate people. Then, everything just clicked: I wanted to write my own olfactory stories. Thus, Sora Dora was born – a brand deeply rooted in emotion and sincerity.

What inspired you to create Sora Dora, and what does that name mean to you personally?

Sora Dora is much more than a brand name; it is a tribute to my family roots. It comes from my great-grandfather, Antoine Soradora, who passed his passion for perfumery on to his daughters, and then to me. The name also reflects a dual symbolism: “Dora” as my family surname, and “Sora”, which also acknowledges a key investor who believed in this project from the very beginning. Sora Dora is therefore a fusion of intimate heritage and modern vision, balancing emotion with ambition.

Sora Dora fragrances have a very strong signature. How do you approach storytelling through scent?

For me, a fragrance is a story you carry with you. Every creation is born from a memory, an emotion, or a lived moment that I want to convey through raw materials. I collaborate with the team at Flair Paris – Amélie Bourgeois, Anne-Sophie Behaghel, Camille Chemardin, Margaux Le Paih-Guérin – to construct these olfactory tales. Together, we try to find the right balance between tension, sweetness, surprise, and depth, so that each fragrance truly touches the person wearing it.

Where do you find inspiration for new fragrance ideas? Nature, your memories, or something else?

Inspiration can come from anywhere. Sometimes it is a place, a raw material, a word, or even a face. But very often, it is specific personal memories that guide me: a mood, an atmosphere, a feeling. Human emotions deeply inspire me – whether they are gentle, intense, or conflicted. The real challenge lies in trying to evoke them through scent without ever becoming predictable.

Vision, Authenticity, and the Business Direction of Niche Brand Sora Dora

What sets Sora Dora apart in today’s niche perfume world?

What sets us apart is our emotional, creative, and sincere approach. At Sora Dora, there is no empty marketing, no fabricated storytelling: every fragrance has been lived, deeply considered, and experienced. We do not try to please at all costs. Our goal is to offer intense, personal, daring creations that are sometimes unsettling – but always honest. And I believe that is what the public senses.

Do you have a favorite fragrance within the Sora Dora collection? Why is it special to you?

Mallow is probably the one that touches me the most. It is gourmand and comforting, yet surprising in its structure. It evokes the sweetness of childhood while maintaining true adult depth. I think its success stems from the perfect balance between accessibility and complexity, and the fact that it speaks to so many people while remaining deeply personal in its construction.

How do you strike a balance between creative freedom, customer expectations, and market trends?

I always start by creating for myself, to tell an honest story. After that, I listen to the market, but I never limit myself. I refuse to follow trends just because they work. I prefer to set a trend or go against the current. I think that is where true creative freedom lies, especially in niche perfumery. Customers can feel when a creation is sincere. And that is what they are looking for today.

Are there any upcoming novelties or concepts you are particularly excited about, and can you share a little about them?

Yes, several! Especially Lü Bu, a fragrance I have been working on for a long time. It is very personal, very emotional, and I think it will surprise people. And then there is Seven, recently launched, which marks a new phase for the brand – a masculine fragrance that isn’t a fougère, featuring a strong signature and beautiful symbolism. I am also in discussions with artists about new collaborations. But I prefer to keep those to myself for now; a little mystery…

Through the words of Quentin Dorado, we have discovered that perfume can be much more than a scent – it is memory, emotion, and an authentic story poured into a bottle. At a time when sincerity is a rarity, Sora Dora remains true to itself: daring, personal, and utterly its own.
